The Digital Safety Licence is a practical digital safety and data protection awareness course developed and delivered by RedLibrary for individuals, families, employees, and teams.
The course helps learners recognise common threats, protect their accounts and personal information, handle data responsibly, and respond appropriately when something goes wrong.
Our approach is built around one principle: Only trust what you verified. Learners explore realistic situations and practical decisions, rather than simply memorising rules.
• Scams and Social Engineering: recognising suspicious messages, impersonation, payment scams, misleading websites, and attempts to create urgency or pressure.
• Passwords and Account Security: creating and managing strong credentials, understanding multi-factor authentication, protecting recovery methods, and responding to account compromise.
• Privacy and Online Identity: understanding what personal information can reveal, reviewing sharing habits, and making informed choices about online services and permissions.
• Understanding Data Protection: understanding personal and sensitive information, data protection principles, individual rights, organisational responsibilities, and practical requirements for collecting, using, sharing, retaining, and disposing of personal data.
• Device and Everyday Digital Safety: understanding updates, secure configuration, downloads, backups, and the risks associated with unfamiliar devices and connections.
• Responsible Data Handling: recognising personal and sensitive information, checking recipients, sharing information appropriately, and understanding the consequences of accidental disclosure.
• Family Online Wellbeing: exploring age-appropriate boundaries, online interactions, digital footprints, and supportive conversations about online risks.
• Incident Recognition and Reporting: identifying warning signs, taking appropriate immediate action, preserving useful information, and knowing when and how to seek help.
The course uses a repeatable decision-making framework:
• STOP: pause before clicking, paying, sharing information, or following an unexpected instruction.
• THINK: consider the context, the information involved, and the consequences of acting.
• VERIFY: check the person, request, destination, or claim through a reliable and independent route.
• ESCALATE: seek support or report concerns when something remains uncertain or an incident may have occurred.
The aim is to build confidence in making informed decisions, including recognising when further verification or assistance is needed.
The Digital Safety Licence is designed for everyone, including individuals, families, employees, managers, directors, sole traders, and other organisational stakeholders. It provides a shared foundation in digital safety and an understanding of organisations’ data protection obligations.
