Secure Media Disposal

Certified. Verified. Responsible.

At RedLibrary, we provide secure media disposal and responsible handling of retired IT equipment for individuals and organisations. Storage media such as hard drives, SSDs, USB devices, smartphones, and complete computer systems are processed using controlled procedures designed to ensure that previously stored information cannot be recovered.

Our service combines secure processing, optional certification, and environmentally responsible recycling. Depending on the service tier selected, devices may receive either a batch disposal confirmation or asset-level certification with online verification.

Our Methodology

All devices are processed in a secure, isolated environment with no external network access. We do not access, view, or process data stored on media submitted for disposal. Services are limited to the secure processing of storage media itself.

Processing procedures comply with recognised security practices referenced in UK/EU GDPR (Article 32), ISO/IEC 27001 media disposal controls, NCSC guidance, and NIST SP 800-88 Rev.1, where relevant to the scope of the service provided.

The appropriate processing method is determined based on the media type and condition unless a specific method is contractually requested. Where overwrite processing is not possible or not required, physical destruction of storage media may be performed and documented.

Supported Devices and Media

Documentation

Documentation provided depends on the service tier selected.

Basic Disposal Confirmation – batch record confirming that devices were processed under secure media disposal procedures.

Certified Chain-of-Custody Documentation – asset-level certificate including device identifier (where available), processing date, disposal method, certificate reference, and online verification.

Certificates include a timestamped image and verification key and can be validated online through our website.

Security & Accountability

Handling areas are monitored by CCTV and access is restricted. Devices and media are tracked through the processing workflow with timestamps and photographic evidence where applicable.

Service documentation may include a batch disposal confirmation, asset-level certificate, and a service invoice (including £0 invoices where applicable) to support organisational record keeping and governance documentation.
